Opened in the fall of 2014, the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians has built part of its heritage into a 38,000-square-foot health and wellness center located in Dowagiac. The building incorporates architecture, materials and colors that reflect the Pokagon Band’s culture. The tribe also plans to have the building LEED Gold certified. Sustainable features include photo-voltaic, low VOC materials, green housekeeping, reduction of heat island effects, and storm water design.
The Pokagon Band Department of Health Services serves as a primary care provider for Native American population in four counties in southwestern Michigan and six counties in northern Indiana.
