What comes to mind when you think about construction safety?Most people think of hard hats, fall protection, and PPE. At our July Dinner & Learn, we explored the hazards we don't always see.A huge thank you to Julie Callaway, President of BDN Industrial Hygiene for an informative presentation on construction health hazards and the critical role industrial hygiene plays in keeping workers safe.Attendees learned about the "Top 3" health hazards commonly encountered on construction projects in Michigan:🔹 Asbestos Exposure🔹 Lead Exposure🔹 Respirable Crystalline SilicaJulie shared practical insights on how these hazards are identified, monitored, and controlled, while emphasizing the importance of asking key questions before work begins:✔ Has the building been inspected?✔ What hazards are present?✔ Who could be exposed?✔ How will exposures be controlled?One of the highlights of the evening was hearing about BDN's involvement with the historic Michigan Central Station restoration project. It was fascinating to learn how the project team approached the unique challenges of restoring such an iconic landmark while carefully managing environmental and occupational health hazards throughout the process.Thank you to Julie and everyone who attended for making this a valuable evening of learning and discussion.
